General Paper Goods Co., Inc., a 90 year old, family owned distributor of packaging, paper and jansan products, located in Southeast Atlanta is researching staffing availability for a possible expansion of their Purchasing Department.  

Responsible for the procurement of products necessary to fulfill current and future customer requirements and all associated tasks related to that end in a professional and expedient manner.

Candidate will monitor the latest raw materials pricing and supply trends comparing them to inventory levels and forecasts to meet customer needs.
Buyer will source new product opportunities as designated by management.
Working with our suppliers, you will assist upper management with ongoing price negotiations and supply channels.
You will also make sure that product supply is uninterrupted on heaviest demand items through inventory control and proper ordering procedures.
Buyer will balance inventory needs with company financial and profitability goals and standards.


1. Analyze daily product movement based on current and future   requirements and placing PO’s accordingly.Process drop ship PO’s as required.Expediting PO’s as necessary.
2. Organize current stocking agreements and systems to maintain   proper stocking levels
3. Process daily receipts and drop ship sales orders.  Investigate shipping and/or billing discrepancies.
4. Sourcing new products, verifies nomenclature and   specifications of purchase requests.
5. Work with Customer Service to ensure any special requirements   for customers are handled properly and timely.
6. Maintain an accurate and timely listing of current vendors   utilized.
7. Creating dialogues with vendors to initiate cost reduction   activities.
8. Monitor and manage the product defect area so that any   products placed there are evaluated and problems identified and corrected in   a timely manner.  Process those   products for shipment, return to vendor or disposal.
9. Works with Logistics/Warehouse Manager and maintains a   schedule of incoming shipments.  
10. Being available to meet with new vendors and interacting   with marketing to develop and communicate new product lines and/or ideas that   might extend or complement our current lines.
11. Maintain a daily cycle count program.
12. Other duties as may be assigned or developed.

Skills & Qualifications

Four Year Business Related Degree.
5 years’ experience in a purchasing department.
Exceptional organizational capability and computer skills   required.
The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and maintain a professional demeanor.
Prior experience in distribution/warehousing/packaging/JanSan,   preferred but not required.
Candidate should be creative and possess a keen attention to detail.  Candidate should also exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
